A new year, finally!

I wanna start this post off first by wishing everyone a very Happy New Year!! So I'm up at 5 in the morning. I've actually been up for about 3 hours already. You'll come to realize that my sleeping patterns are very irregular and I take short naps in the evening and stay up to the wee hours of the morning.
I was able to get a copy of this awesome documentary called Food, Inc and it opened my eyes to the whole food industry and agricultural sustainability. I'm gonna take 5 vows that I'm gonna try to uphold for 2010:

-buy organic or sustainable food
-go without meat once a week
-read labels (I'm pretty good at this already)
-drink more water (I wanna get back to drinking a gallon minimum everyday).
-support companies that treat workers, animals, and environment with respect.

I feel that these are all things that people should try to incorporate in their everyday lives. I'm also going to shop at my local farmer market to for seasonal produce and eggs. If you wanna learn more on what you can do, please visit this site: Food Inc.

My New Year's was ok. I didn't do anything all New Years Eve until I met some friends at a bar later that night. I missed the countdown cause I was riding my bike there, but I danced for the rest of the night. 2 bottles of champagne made my rhythm a whole lot better. I obviously had too much too drink cause I left my bag there with my camera in there, but luckily the next day it was still there. Whew!!

Nothing exciting on New Years. I'm just really excited that my favorite singer, Christina Aguilera is releasing new music in March. This should be exciting cause she's working with so many different artists and producers that it's gonna be such an eclectic mix. Collaborators include Sia (of Zero 7 fame), Tricky Stewart, Focus, Santigold, M.I.A, Linda Perry, Diplo & Switch, Ladytron, Goldfrapp, and Le Tigre. I think she's gonna definitely own the musical game in 2010.

Other than that, I've just been posting on this low carb forum that is really nice. The people are very friendly and encouraging and it's an outlet for me to talk to others that are also trying to lose weight. It's inspiring to read success stories of people losing 100, 200, and even 300 lbs. Makes me realize that I don't have it so bad.

Well, that's it for now. I think I should force myself to try to get some sleep. I will post tomorrow after I run my errands, which includes grocery shopping. I hope this rough cough I have has decreased by then.

Take care.

Starting January 3, 2010

Well this is my first post. I never thought that I would create my own blog and I definitely didn't think that I would be chronicling my weight loss efforts for the world to see. This blog will not only talk about my lifestyle change, but also talk about my everyday life. I don't think I have the most exciting life, but it'll give me a chance to vent. There's something liberating about writing your thoughts and feeling.

Well a few things: I'm currently unemployed and I'm a college student, so my funds are tight. Luckily, I'll be able to get lots of groceries, but I can't afford my gym membership at 24 Hour fitness that I purchased in October. It's quite alright though cause it'll just require me to go back to basics and start walking and running around the lake and riding my bike for longer distances.

I'm not going to start my diet or should I say lifestyle change until January 3, then I can have a clean slate from the New Year's partying. It'll feel good to usher in the new year with a new zest for life. I've decided that I'm gonna do the South Beach diet. I've done it before and felt that I had the best results with it, but I'm gonna try to keep my carbs under 20 grams for the first month or so. I'm a person who needs to see dramatic results and the low carb lifestyle provides that.

Lets see. I guess I should tell you my workout plans. Well as mentioned above, I plan to walk/run around Lake Merritt and ride my bike, swim, and do indoor cardio at school. I signed up for a beginning swim class because I feel my technique is sloppy. I haven't taken swim lessons since I was 7. I'm comfortable in water, but I feel my kicking and breathing sucks. I eventually want to be swimming laps by the end of the summer.

Well, I don't want to babble on for too long, so I'm gonna wrap this up. I guess I'll try to make my next post on New Years Day, so I can tell you how mine went.

Happy New Years!!! Stay safe, be blessed, and say your prayers (you don't have to wait till you go to bed either).
